• 1. 33: Men of Color Healing Association
     1. Mel suggests that we fund all of the programming, at $8105. Mel would like to cover a portion of the employee wages as well, perhaps the peer mentors. There is some agreement from the group about this proposal.
     2. This proposal is eligible for EMH
     3. Discussion regarding supporting 1 or 2 students.
     4. We have not seen a request form this group for several years and it’s good to see an organization that hasn’t been reliant on SFAC funds.
     5. Discussion regarding the fund sources in the ABC Student Success budget. Carryforward seems to be reasonable.
     6. Lauren suggests two student it
     7. $19,447 for two peer mentors and all of the programming budget.
  2. 34: EOP 2nd Year STEM Program
     1. Mel suggests funding the student employees plus benefits at $7246. If we can fund more, we could include programming, adding ($4650).
     2. Marshall reminds the group that Orientation is considered a core university function by CSF.
     3. Note to the awardee: Please do not change the budget template in the future.
     4. $10,896 for student employees, benefits, and programming except food for fall welcome. There is consensus to support.
  3. 36: Graduate Student Professional Development in Public Speaking with an Emphasis on Grad Slam Participation
     1. Also known as “Grad Slam”
     2. Wahaj explains that he hasn’t had personal experience with the program but the proposal itself is well written. The only item that he is concerned about is that $5,000 seems high for the prizes. We could reduce this.
     3. To be consistent with another similar proposal, we could fund the finalist prizes only. Trey asks if we will also fund programming.
     4. Lauren suggests funding $10,000. There is consensus. We will fund any expenses other than prizes for the preliminary rounds.
  4. 37 SlugMUN (Model United Nations) Yearly Competitions
     1. There are comments regarding how organized this application is.
     2. Budget sheet was edited.
     3. Lauren suggests funding Harvard and one other trip. Marshall suggests adding UCLA because 24 people can attend.
     4. Funding Harvard and UCLA is $15,015
     5. Trey agrees. There is consensus.
  5. 38 Supporting Prospective and First Year Students
     1. Cheryl suggests funding the student employees for the academic year. Not sure about the food.
     2. Marshall suggests food and two mentors. $10,420.
     3. There is consensus.
  6. 40 Building a Stronger Welcome: Funding Orientation & Welcome Leaders (OWLs)
     1. Marshall explains that he has a lot of issues with this proposal because it doesn’t explain how much it costs to subsidize an OWL (dining plan, housing costs).
     2. Concern is noted regarding there being no permanent fund source for a function like this.
     3. Mel says that students don’t receive academic credit for this work.
     4. Lisa asks whether the College Student Government Fee could pay for this? Marshall says yes, it currently is subsidizing these expenses. Lisa says that there is almost $850,000 in the college student government’s carry forward.
     5. The programs offices in the colleges receive college student government fees.
     6. Lucy mentions that she appreciates that the ten colleges came together on this and the program is comprehensive. In year’s past, not every college had OLs, some were paid and some were not paid, etc.
     7. Katie asks what happens if the proposal is not fully funded? Cheryl says that the proposal includes a priority list.
     8. We don’t want to fund something that is really a permanent need.
     9. Lucy suggests inviting the AVC CHES to SFAC for a discussion about OWL’s, student government fee, etc.
     10. Proposal is made to not fund. Mel abstains. There are no objections.
  7. 41 Black Academy & Transfer Prep Partnership
     1. Wahaj asks for clarification on what the 17 week period is. Cheryl says that the proposal says that mentors will connect with students in the summer. Mel adds that this is a very popular program and the in-person activities happen a few days before welcome week begins.
     2. Lauren suggests two mentors and the dinner, bringing the total to $30,000, however the proposal says that DSAS may fund the program.
     3. Tabled to next week while Lucy checks with the DSAS.
  8. 42 African American Mentorship Program
     1. Lauren expresses concern that the proposal said they need all or nothing; partial funding is not an option.
     2. Wahaj asks if we can reach out to the authors to ask about what “pause” the program means. It is somewhat vague. Is there a threshold by which they could offer a minimum program. $44K seems like a lot for a minimum amount.
     3. Concern expressed that this will impact student employees.
     4. Lucy will follow up with the Director to ask about this.
  9. 43 EOP End of Year Graduation Ceremony
     1. Lauren points out there is a discrepancy between the budget and the requested amount. $15,414 in the budget. In the Proposal, the request is for $20,000.
     2. Mel suggests that a priority for her are the graduation stoles. A graduate ceremony is an important milestone meant to celebrate.
     3. Cheryl says that last year they had a limit of 150 RSVPs but 279 wanted to attend. They are asking for meals for 200 people.
     4. Lauren says that if you expanded line 65 on the budget, the total is $18,414.
     5. Lauren suggests that we fund $13,000 for all of the expenses and half of the meals. Mel suggests that funding for food might be secured through other sources.
     6. $13,199 for half of the meals and fully funding all other expenses. No objections.
  10. 44 Dia de los Muertos Ceremonia
      1. Trey suggests that advertising may not be the greatest priority.
      2. Mel suggests funding at least a baseline for all of production and venue operation $14,015.60. She would like to cover some of the food and altar expenses as well.
      3. Cheryl suggests that we could cover some of the artists and performer fees, as this is a highlight of the program ($1000 per performance).
      4. Katie asks if there are two performances? Mel says the performance fees are for outside performances. There are also student performances.
      5. Trey says that if we round up to $15,000 to partially cover one performer or we could fund the student performers.
      6. Trey would like to add both student performers, and the $100 for the prize and award. This would add up to $15,000. It would be nice to emphasize the student performers. $14,865.60.
      7. $15,000 for the items above, and anything left over toward recycling costs.
