Audit Subcommittee

A standing subcommittee of the UCSC Student Fee Advisory Committee responsible for finding information about, and writing reports on, student fees within its chartered scope.

Write reports and recommendations based on these findings and present to relevant UCSC and UC Office of the President administration. Develop policy SSF, M7, and Campus Based Fee Referenda.

Charter language reproduced as adopted; “develop policy” here means recommend, not enact. The subcommittee makes recommendations to the full SFAC and to UCSC administration; it does not set university policy.

Time commitment: at least 1.5 hours a week, with additional time during active audit projects.

Scope

Within charter

  • Student Services Fee (SSF)
  • Measure 7 (M7)
  • All Campus-Based Fee Referenda

Outside charter (shown for context)

Fee Transparency Project

slugfees.org is the Audit Subcommittee's public deliverable under our charter. It publishes:

Modeled on UC Berkeley's precedent: the official csf.berkeley.edu Resources page lists the student-run berkeleyfee.org as a Student Fee Data Visualization companion.

Data sources

  • Fee amounts: the UCSC Registrar's published rates. Last reviewed May 2026.
  • Ballot measure history: the UCSC Dean of Students elections archive, supplemented by UCSC Special Collections for older referenda. Detailed vote tallies for several pre-1999 measures remain undigitized; these are excluded from the trend charts and noted as such.
  • Meeting minutes: mirrored from the public record at sfac.ucsc.edu as a research index for the Audit Subcommittee's work.
  • Passage rules: documented at the top of the trend charts; rules have changed over time (simple majority pre-2015, two-thirds with 25% undergraduate quorum since 2015).

Maintenance & succession

The site is maintained by the chair of the SFAC Audit Subcommittee. The maintainer role is tied to the subcommittee chair seat, not to any individual student, so the project survives committee turnover.

Errors and omissions are the Audit Subcommittee's. For official campus information, refer to ucsc.edu, the UCSC Registrar, and Financial Aid & Scholarships.
